Since we last caught up with Simon Mattisson, the Lammhults scholarship holder from Ung Svensk Form 2023, much has changed. Simon reflects on his journey developing a product with the support of Lammhults' product development team.
We met up and discussed how his design process has evolved. Simon's initial prototype was a flippable chair/lounge chair, combining two functions into one piece of furniture. Now, it has evolved into an easy chair suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. Applying the dual-use concept from the previous prototype in a different way. Inspired by Lammhults classics from the late 60's, the chair has a bold design with a touch of playfulness.
Simon shared his thoughts on the updated prototype: "I see Lammhults' product range as a font of letters—they are all unique, but they share the same design consistency. Instead of designing a piece of furniture in the typography of Simon, I wanted it to blend into Lammhults' other letters with my perspective on it."
Similar to many early Lammhults designs from the late '60s, Simon's easy chair features a large-diameter steel tube frame. The seat and back are made of steel sheets with large circular perforations. Cushions can also be added for extra comfort.
Simon reflects "It has been a great experience to follow all the hands-on steps in the making of the prototypes, learning about the possibilities and limitations of Lammhults production processes, and deciding on the final design. I really look forward to displaying the final result at Svensk Form and seeing the easy chair in the color and fabric combinations that I have meticulously chosen to present them in."
The chair will be officially showcased on June 18 at Svensk Form in Stockholm.
