This is the last time we meet up with Ung Svensk Form´s Lammhults scholarship holder Simon Mattisson, in his process of developing a product with the support of Lammhults product development team. Get ready to explore the result O38 outdoor lounge chair.
Beginning the design process by diving into Lammhults current catalogue and vast archive, Simon was struck by the cohesive aesthetic shared across the whole range, especially it’s contemporary offering. Simon started to see Lammhults as typography and the individual furniture pieces as letters sharing the same typeface — some being italic, lowercase or in capital letters, while still sharing the same playfully modernist aesthetic.
'Then I realized that instead of designing a piece of furniture in the font of Simon I wanted to create something that would seamlessly fit into the typography of Lammhults and all it’s other letters. Naturally the lounge chair takes it’s main inspiration from the form language found in the Lammhults catalogue, in particular the S70 series and its S-shaped tubular steel frames made in a bold font.'
Expanding on the idea, Simon came to the conclusion that an outdoor lounge chair in bold font would be a fitting addition to the Lammhults family of letters. The goal was to create something equally functional and comfortable, kind and welcoming but still a bold addition to any garden, patio or balcony.
The O38 lounge chair was successfully showcased for the first time at Svensk Form's summer mingle last week in Stockholm. It was warmly received and generated a strong desire among many of the spectators.
Simon explain the idea of the name: 'The name ”O38” is both a nod to the classic S70 series as well as describing the slightly chunky, 38 millimeter tubular steel that the chair is made out of.
O38 Lounge Chair is presented in a variety of Lammhults signature colors, with removable soft cushions upholstered with outdoor Kvadrat fabric — ensuring the chair will stand the test of time throughout many sun drenched cocktail parties, spontaneous meetings and cozy evenings under the stars.
